OCIA - How Do I Become Catholic?

The Third Scrutiny

This Sunday, March 22, we will have the third and last of the Three Scrutinies.

The Gospel will be about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.  The Third Scrutiny demonstrates God's power and His desire to give us spiritual life.

If you are able to attend, I encourage you to join us. I will once again have pews marked off for you.  I know some may have plans.  If you cannot attend this Mass, I still strongly encourage you to attend Mass somewhere.

I still have copies of Catholic Order of Mass that I can hand out if anyone needs one.  This document is a good way to orient yourself in the Mass and follow what is going on.  You can also do so in the blue Word & Song book found in the pew starting on page 4.

Also, a reminder, Sacred Heart Rockne will be hosting its Lenten penitential rite this Monday, March 23 at 7PM.  All candidates planning to be confirmed at the Easter Vigil will need to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation by going to confession before the Vigil.

What is OCIA?

OCIA (formerly RCIA) stands for Order of Christian Initiation for Adults.  OCIA is the normal process by which non-Catholics can enter the Catholic Church.  However, OCIA classes are open to anyone, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, wishing to learn more about the Catholic faith.

When Are OCIA Classes Held?

OCIA classes are held on Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:30AM in Holtman Hall.  Classes for the 2024-25 liturgical year will start on Sunday, September 8.

How Can I Register for OCIA Classes?

There is no need to sign up for OCIA class in advance.  Just show up for class on Sunday, September 14.

You will be asked to fill out an OCIA participant form at that time.  This is an online form.  You can find it here:

All classes will be held in Holtman Hall unless otherwise stated.

Will OCIA Classes be Streamed?

We encourage all participants to attend all scheduled classes in Holtmann Hall if possible.  But streaming is available if you need to miss a class, or if your situation prohibits you from attending in person.

You can live stream, or later view classes, on our YouTube OCIA - Sacred Heart Catholic Church - Rockne Texas channel (@ocia.rockne.texas.1892):
